Installation & updates
Install LidLab
After purchase, sign in to your Polar customer portal with the email used at checkout to find your download and license. Extract the ZIP, then drag LidLab to Applications before opening it.
Your purchase includes a license for one active Mac. Compatible Apple Silicon MacBook, macOS 14 or later. Internet is required for activation and license validation at launch.
First launch
This version is not notarized by Apple. If macOS blocks it because the developer cannot be verified, open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway, then confirm for LidLab. Do not disable your Mac’s general security protections. If macOS reports malware or a damaged file, stop installation and contact support.
Enable desktop effects
In General, allow screen access. Enable LidLab in Screen & System Audio Recording, then accept Quit & Reopen if macOS offers it. Audio is not captured. Check that screen access shows Allowed and the sensor is connected. Slowly lower the lid below your working angle to see the effect.
Activate your license
After purchase, copy your key from Polar and paste it into License in the app. Your license covers one active Mac.
Updates included
Use About → Check for updates for a manual check. Automatic checks run while the app is open. Published updates are cryptographically signed by LidLab and verified before installation, which you choose to start. This is not Apple notarization. After an update, macOS may ask you to grant screen access again.
